So this is what pop does to my body

CokeMost athletes know that drinking pop is one of the worst things you can do while training. But what about computer geeks like me who only run to catch the bus? While truth be told that pop (also know as soda and/or coke) is horrible for your body. How horrible? Well Healthbolt has a nice summary of all the damage it does. Here is a quick summary:

  • 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. 100% of your recommended daily intake.
  • Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst.
  • Your liver responds to this by turning any sugar it can get its hands on into fat.
  • Your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises, as a response your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream.
  • The phosphoric acid binds calcium, magnesium and zinc in your lower intestine, preventing there absorption into the body.

And that is just in the first hour! It gets worse from there. Just thought I’d post this as an encouragement to all the Joe’s Goals users out there who are trying to quite the pop addiction.
