Joe speaks Portuguese, and other updates

PortugueseGreetings everyone and welcome Kim Komando listeners. With the help of Kim we’ve crossed 12,000 users. Awesome! Five months ago, when Joe’s Goals got off the ground, I never thought it would have made it this far. The sky really is the limit.

Anyway, this is just a quick check in with a few updates to Joe’s Goals.

  1. The goal tracker now supports the Portuguese language. A big thanks goes out to Mathilde and Russell from HostMySite (I can’t recommend them highly enough!) as well as many Joe’s Goals users such as Carlos and Andri. You should now be able to create goals and add logbooks using the full Portuguese character set. This is a pretty big deal for all those users who email once a week letting me know they can’t use their native language. Most Asian languages should also still work. If you are having an issue using Joe’s Goals with a different character set just drop me a line and I’ll see what I can do to get it fixed.
  2. There is now a day picker on the goal tracker. It is represented by a small calender icon in the top right corner. Click on it and a calender pops up. Click on the calender and you’ll jump to that day on the goal tracker. Neat, eh? It is based on the Yahoo User Interface calender control.
  3. The password remind function should now be sending out correct (valid) passwords. There has been an issue with my Javascript validation and some users have been able to create passwords that aren’t valid when logging in. Passwords are now randomly reset which should help increase security.

I’ll continue to work on bug fixes and other minor improvements but with these updates out of the way I’m going to shift my coding attention to several new projects in following order:

  1. New Goal Types (such as a number tracking goal to keep track of blood pressure, money spent, etc).
  2. Better Reporting (many users have a lot of data in their tracker and are anxious to get some more insightful reports to show them how well they are doing).
  3. Overall Performance (the tracker is a bit slow and I’ve got a number of ideas that should help speed it up).

If you have any thoughts on these upcoming updates or specific features you’d like to see just let me know via a comment or feedback post. Bug reports are welcome too.

That is it for now! Thanks for using Joe’s Goals and keep telling your friends!

I like the day picker. A lot. Thanks Ian. It’s quirky in that it begins at December 2005 instead of the current month. Oh well.

When you have time I’d like to see the green arrows (or a second set of arrows) go forward or back by a week instead of a day. It would speed things up nicely.

Again, thanks for the great work.
