The Gestation Project: The Interview

9 months in 20 seconds A couple of days ago I sat down with my friend Matt Pressnall of EnjoyYourDigitalLife to talk about his super cool Gestation Project. Basically he took a picture of his wife every day during her pregnancy
and combined all those pictures into a single video. Check out the video here.

IS: Why did you create EnjoyYourDigitalLife.com?

MP: When our gestation video became an internet hit, so many people asked how we did it and said how much they wish they’d thought to do it for their children. So we wanted to create a place where people could share these kinds of ideas and make the most of their digital memories. We also recognize that technology is moving forward at a blinding pace and making certain things even more complicated…we offer solutions to simplify your life (digital or otherwise). Also, we are currently writing detailed instructions on how folks can create their own version of “The Gestation Project”; individuals can sign up on our site to be notified when it is ready.

IS: How does the advent of digital cameras change the ways families preserve their memories?

MP: It used to be that everyone had photo prints and video cassettes they knew how to protect: use acid-free photo albums, save negatives, and keep tapes in cool, dry locations. But with electronic files either sitting on memory cards or transferred to their computers, very few people are protected against failing hard drives or corrupted memory cards. You have to learn how to preserve those memories!

IS: But what opportunities does all that digital content create?

MP: This is the huge upside - there is so much you can do with digital photos and video! The list of possibilities is nearly endless, from simple slideshows to products to edited videos. And with the technology available today, you can enjoy them on your computer, your TV, or share them with the world on the Internet.

IS: How can people use EnjoyYourDigitalLife.com to get ideas, or share their ideas and projects?

MP: All they need to do is register…just pick a username and enter your email address to get your password sent to you. Then you can start writing your digital scrapbooking projects, asking questions of the other EYDLers (’idlers’) or sharing great tools and ideas you find online.

IS: Why is now a good time to check out EnjoyYourDigitalLife.com?

MP: We are looking for a few good folks to make moderators and editors to help create and share their ideas for the community at large. If you are interested in EYDLing the day away, sign up and let us know!
